Some smart science and math guy at the New Jersey Institute of Technology has been running mathematical models for the past seven seasons to predict how many wins each MLB team will get each year. He’s apparently been accurate enough to gain credibility. Sadly, he predicts Your Texas Rangers will say hello to the win column only 70 times this season. [Generic Rangers talk alert] And unless they can tighten up middle relief and play defense worth a lick, I can’t see much reason to disagree.
So, how will the 70 wins shake out for this pitching staff? I don’t see any of the starting five (or four right now) with more than 10 wins……if they are lucky. I guess the wins will come from our setup guy and closer, since they are surely to blow their share of leads.
Well, Millwood had a great start to his season earlier this week, the rest of the team just let him down. I could see him with 12 or 13 ticks in the W column this year if he keeps pitching that way.
While he can’t take the blame, I think Michael Young’s battle with the flu contributed to his ability to play at his usual level. That being said, there have been glimmers of hope. Josh Hamilton’s hitting and outfield defense is one of them. Give them a little more time to “gel” and you may be surprised by them…a little. Yes, I’m a lifelong fan with bouts of disappointment, similar to Cubs fans.
Can we just trade Tom Hicks?
Send the Rangers to Montreal.
Plow the Ballpark under and start over with a National League franchise. Shake the Demon Ghost of the Washington Senators.
If the ace of the staff, Millwood, gets 12 or 13 wins, what does that say for the rest of those rag-arms? It says enjoy a long off-season.
If you plow the ballpark under that would leave a Glory hole.
Post of the Day?
No, post of the week. Great job by Mike.
