1. I see you Big German: Dirk Nowitzki got his Willis Reed on, making a surprise return and leading the Mavericks to a huge win over Golden State.
2. The Dallas Zoo’s only lion, Boris, died yesterday, probably from the big C. Cue this.
3. This is a beautiful story of a Arlington couple, married 75 years, that died five hours apart. I really hope I don’t make it to 100.

> I really hope I don’t make it to 100.
Don’t worry. I’m sure working for D Magazine will take a few years off.
you won’t
Thanks for the link, great story.
Love is easy to, well, love.
Props to the Willis Reed (Old School NBA) reference!
My wife sent me the article of the couple and commented of “How sweet - we’ll be like that.”
I responded with, “Last week she was still ironing his shirts so he’d look good wherever he went. What a guy!” Now, I’m wondering if I’ll get to complete 21 years, much less 75.
Apparently, my date of death is September 21, 2059. So I’ll be 85. The interwebs are never wrong.
I’m no actuary nor was meant to be, but it seems that if any given two people are 100, their odds of dying within a few hours of each other are relatively high.
It’s not reported in the story, but a couple days later, nurses found a rare red fern plant growing through a crack in the floor where the beds had been pushed together.
LMAO @ brian
Does Brian get post of the day?
Yes. Yes, he does. Well played, Brian. Well played indeed.
Brian: that was EXCELLENT.
anyone else get a pop up for Dallas Roars when clicking on the dead lion story?
The DMN should have more class…
You realize, Zachary, that you will need to explain this gently to your son, seeing that he really, really, really loved Boris.
Don’t hurt yourself stretching to compare a Finals Game 7 with a regular season game between two teams struggling to make the playoffs.
It didn’t hurt at all, James! But thanks for asking after me. It means a lot.
