A lake-loving FBvian says he read this story in the DMN yesterday about the renovations to the trails and so forth at White Rock, but he still has a question:
I noticed that one of the two “smoke stack” buildings at the dam is totally gutted and some kinda underground warehouse is being built out toward the boat docks. Would you ask any FrontBurnervians if they know what’s up? I’ve often thought the old plant there would make a good cafe or rest area along the lake.
I believe he’s referring to the old pump station. With a bit more time, I’d call the city parks folks and ask. But I bet the FB Nation will provide the answer more quickly.
The White Rock Rowing Club is converting the facility into a “world class” rowing center. This is a multi million dollar project that already has the financing to do things right. In the near future, you will be able to watch some major collegiate regattas. SMU and several of the local high schools already use WRL as their training facility.
The cafe on the lake sounds like a GREAT idea. I would be much more likely to patronize that than to ever watch a regatta, “major collegiate” or otherwise. Not even Rob Lowe in “Oxford Blues” could make rowing seem exciting.
I’m waiting for the day when there will be punting on the Trinity.
Ahhhhh, those halcyon days…..
I like this idea, but too bad OKC is way ahead in establishing a world-class rowing venue. If people cared about rowing. Or OKC. Or humans.
