1. Amid ethical questions, Alphonso Jackson will step down as HUD boss, a move that feels like it’s been coming for two years.
2. A Southwest plane returns to Love Field with engine trouble. Someone’s gonna need a few stiff drinks at The Cockpit.
3. Obama came out ahead in the weekend caucuses. Probably. Is there any question the real loser in all of this is Texas?

Obama = Taxation. McCain = More of the same. It’s not just Texas that is the real loser because of this election stuff, it’s America.
ummh, HUH forgot the HillaMonster. That too equals Taxation. Who answers the phone at 3AM?
The TaxMan
yea, we should get free healthcare, roads, and subsidized gasoline without paying taxes!!! stupid government!
Yes, Texas loses. That damn Texas ‘two-step’ was like a drunken bore at Gilley’s near last call.
PS to pot shot partisans on this low cloud cover Monday: Anyone elected in November=taxation because for several years (ask emeritus Wick) we had a see-no-evil spending bill congress sending earmarked baskets to a ‘sign ‘em all’ White House. We’re in gigantic debt in a financial ‘downturn’ with bills to pay for, among other things, financial-investment banking institutional ‘free market’ play day on Ritalin. We pay for a war borrowing from China and India and then use tax monies to bail out the so-called ‘mortgage crisis meltdown’ and voila…. the Visa is maxed out.
Don’t blame the three potential presidential messengers. They’re gonna be bailing water big time. You don’t have to have drinks with David Johnson to read these tea leaves. Happy ‘I’m gusessing Dow below 10 before fall’ Monday.
(applauding Rawlins)
There are smarter ways to tax people, Brian. Increasing taxes on those who hire employees will obviously cause those businesses to operate on a tighter budget. The number one expense at most companies? Payroll. How do you decrease your number one expense? Less payroll. So, this magical plan that will give us middle to lower class a tax break, all while taxing the rich more, will backfire and mean more taxes for all of us.
And for the record, we shouldn’t get “free healthcare” or “subsidized gasoline.” People should work for money, not have it given to them by the government. It’s a GOVERNMENT, not your parents.
ANd if the govt is of the people, by the people and for the people, it should LISTEN to the people and pull out of Iraq. It’s called a bottomless pit and we’re pouring BILLIONS of dollars and THOUSANDS of American lives into that sandy hole. W = never having to say you’re WRONG.
On a happier note, I booked a round-trip flight to Houston on Southwest a few years back. Apparently we developed hydraulic trouble. Fire trucks lining the runway greeted our return and the whole 9 yrds. About a month later I received a voucher for a free one-way ticket to anywhere Southwest flew. I told them no thanks, I’d had enough of their one way flights.
Agreed David. That is another topic all-together. Obama does have that going for him, I’m just afraid he is going to end up taxing us all into the stone age, because it’s not as simple as he makes it out to be.
McCain on the other hand, won’t rush us out of Iraq and will continue the status-quo, which makes no sense.
