Rev. Roy Frady in Plano may sue the city for being too inclusive in some prayer deal where religious leaders come to city hall to pray. I really don’t care all that much, per se. What I do wonder is how little a person thinks of his own faith that he needs some government stamp of approval on it to give it gravitas.
And I wonder why someone gave this preacher a Bible with Matthew 9:5-6 missing. IJS.
I think it was missing Romans 14, as well. In fact, most Christians’ Bibles seem to be missing Romans 14.
but mine has Isaiah 1 in full.
Daniel, that’s funny. Mine isn’t missing that chapter. It talks about not judging other people for having weak faith according to your actions vs. their’s. How quick you are to condemn when you accuse Christians of the very same thing. Irony? Hypocrisy?
I’m lovin’ some Kristin about now.
It’s always easier to be a christian than a disciple. Too often the former concerns himself with letting the world see what he is. The latter is only concerned with letting Christ know he is His, and the world sees as a result. You need no public chambers or mountaintops for that. Just kneel at the cross.
Didn’t say “all,” said “most.” (Such a blistering condemnation!) I realize that not all Christians are backwards self-righteous bigots, no more so than all Republicans are closeted homosexuals.
In general, other folks’ religious faiths are neither here nor there to me. Too few return the courtesy, but they’re not hurting anybody, I guess.
BTW, my Christian buddy says “Christian” is a great noun but a terrible adjective. I’d ask him what he means, but it sounds kind of inscrutable and I like that.
Daniel, none of us said “all” either in reference to your post. Volley back to you.
Amanda, you give me warm fuzzies.
Daniel, it’s good to hear you have a Christian friend. Talk to him more. Not being “in your face,” but some of your commentary is hard to read for me. What I am saying is that there is another side to “being” a Christian, not the world’s view, not the soundbites. You’re in the lions den, no?
Kristin, it doesn’t seem like he’s judging to me…just observing. Maybe you can’t say it’s just Christians that are judgemental. But they have a much louder voice than anybody else in this country.
And also, are you and the amanda gonna start making out soon or what?
Precisely, Brian — and what’s more, it hasn’t been established that I’m not commenting as a fellow Christian. It must be the Feast of the Assumption, or something.
(cueing up Herbie Hancock’s Rockit) All right, Kristin and Amanda — action!
It’s funny how when you get uncomfortable, Daniel and Brian, you cue the Indigo Girls.
Brian, judging tends to bring out the claws, name-calling, and stereotypes. Saying that “Most Christian’s Bibles seem to be missing Romans 14″, without further explanation, gives off the judging vibes. Had Daniel said something more like, “My fellow Christians and I need to be more mindful of our actions according to what Romans 14 says”…then I would be inclined to think he is an observant Christian who isn’t pointing the finger at everyone but himself. I don’t know of anyone who truly calls themself a Christian who doesn’t think they should always be more aware of how they are viewed by the world. But that’s just my experience as a Christian in a secular world.
Sorry guys, and Amanda: my husband doesn’t share. Have a great Easter!
