Follow Up on Fairfield Residential’s Development Plan

After Zac’s post last week (and Sam Merten’s great work over at the Observer) it looks like momentum is shifting in favor of Fairfield Residential’s cool transit-oriented development over at Lover’s Lane and Greenville. Word is more than 115 people (as counted by the Ozona servers) turned out at Ozona to meet with Councilmember Angela Hunt, and they all supported the project. The opposition was invited as well, but they declined and held a separate meeting with the District 14 leader — about 15 or 20 of them, we hear.

How did the opposition group to this development (the Lovers Amesbury Neighborhood Coalition) manage to leverage so much power?

The two ring-leaders (Norma Minnis and John Allegro) live on the far side of White Rock Lake… 4 TO 6 MILES AWAY from the proposed development.

What dog do they have in this hunt and why does Angela Hunt even bother giving them the time of day?

One thing that I’m really starting to get tired of is these fake, astro-turf “Neighborhood” action committees that, more often than not, are actually something else entirely.

If organizations like the LANC have legitimate concerns, why do they have to masquerade as something they are not?

I live in this neighborhood and received notices about meetings and such. The Ozona meeting was like, over a month ago, well before the meeting this past Saturday. While I am for new development on that property, I AM opposed to the rezoning for 4 stories plus retail. Another developer that is building very nearby is requesting rezoing from MF-1 to MF-2. LANC is asking Fairfield to do this as well, instead of their MF-3 plan. They are not against new things happening in that area, just property that does not fit in with the rest of the neighborhood (i.e. the Village and neighboring conominuim properties). And anybody that thinks traffic will not be affected by this clearly does not live over here.

Alicia - the Ozona meeting was this past Saturday. I was there. Sorry you missed it!

I don’t know enough about the proposed development one way or the other… just trying to understand why a “neighborhood” organization appears to be led by a couple of folks from the other side of town.

Oops, well that was the second one then. And I didn’t see any notices about it here at our complex nor did I get any emails like we did for the other one, so that may be why it was only supporters. I know there was one about a month ago where they asked people against it to go so they could talk about their plans. Sneaky…

I don’t think they were being sneaky. The meeting was publicized in a Dallas Observer article and in the comments to the last post about Fairfield on Frontburner. That’s how I heard about it!
