I understand the house was in terrible condition and needed to come down. As far as 20,00 square feet .. so be it. The owners should be able to do whatever they wish. I am sure it will be better than the deteriorating stucco preceeding it.

I lived in an apartment along Abbott for a few years a few years ago and used to walk past that house all the time, either when going to the pool or just out for a walk. Always wondered who lived there and why, on that huge lot, it survived when everything else around it was being torn asunder. Too bad, I always thought it was a pretty house amongst too many unimaginative rebuilds.

I would point out that the house had been listed for $12 million. I'm not saying that the buyer paid full asking price, but you have to assume it was in the eight-figure range -- thereby making it one of the most expensive residential tear-downs in Dallas history.

They may have that Wachovia or Wells Fargo branch up and running within a few weeks. Plenty of drive-thru banking lanes too!!!

Looks like a good spot for a highrise (maybe 25 stories) apartment building to me. Just think of the view across Turtle Creek to the Muse Estate and the Rose's house, not to mention the view of downtown. I bet those on the north could see the Bush Library. Think HP would go for that?
