High School Reunion the Show More Enjoyable than Your Own, Less Humiliating

High School Reunion is the newest kid on the reality TV block. Premiering Wednesday on TV Land, the show features a group of thirtysomethings who graduated from Richardson’s J.J. Pearce High School 20 years ago. The good folks at TV Land were kind enough to send over a screener DVD with the first three episodes. D Home’s amazing Laura “Nielsen” Kostelny was kind enough to watch them and preview the show for you dear, sweet FBvians:

Wondering whether you should tune in to High School Reunion Wednesday night? One word: yes. The show comes to you from the geniuses behind The Bachelor and features folks from Richardson’s J.J. Pearce late-’80s graduating classes. All of the stereotypes are covered: the beauty queen (she’s been married four times!!); the stud (still cute!); the divorced couple (plus the dude she cheated with!); and the lesbian (will she end up falling for a dude? No.) Still leaning toward watching Big Brother 9 on CBS? As an expert on all things reality television, let me assure you that watching folks closing in on 40 is different than anything you’ve ever seen on television. Curious? Jump.

Some words that I came up with to describe the first three episodes, which contain almost nothing but people of a certain age drinking a whole bunch.

Inertia. Remember when your uncle used to drink all day on the boat? And by the end of the day he was all sun-burned, and he had that stupid smile on his face, and he was mute except for a random, “You’re such a good kid” here and there? But you really weren’t creeped out because you were excited about the prospect of driving the boat back to the dock? That’s what the dudes on this show are like. Harmless.

Educational. Are your kids talking about getting a tattoo? Check out Kat’s. Are tattoos still cool post-20s? Discuss.

Mortality. Justin and Rob are darling—both have most of their hair. Which leads to the question, at what point did having “most” of your hair become a good thing?

We will be at the premiere party on Wednesday. Fingers crossed that I’ll have the opportunity to run my fingers through Rob’s (thinning) hair.

Darn it. I don’t have the TV Land channel. Is this a completely random channel??? Do you have to have the Ultra Supreme Platinum level package to have this obscure channel included in your roster of options?

I have basic Time Warner Dallas cable & thought I didn’t have it until I actually looked. Go to your cable company’s website and check the line-up.
