Big, Mysterious Announcement out of DFW Airport Turns out to Be Nothing

I feel so used, so cheap. Yesterday, I put up a post about a supposed big deal out at the airport this morning. You know what the big announcement was? The Texas Ballet Theater will visit China this fall. I guess technically that’s an “international announcement.” But come on, guys.

Anytime you hear “big announcement” by DFW Airport, expect the opposite. Over the years Ken Capps thinks everything is big.

Errr… don’t the Mayors of Dallas and Fort Worth have better things to do?

  • guess

Maybe the mayors were also under the impression this was a big announcement. Of course, when you keep these things secret, the media send their Big Announcement reporters, rather than the arts reporters, who might actually give a hoot.

Reminds me of the “Major Station Announcement” buildup from the Ticket a couple months back. Thought Greggo was coming back or would be replaced, turned out to be Nolan Ryan signing autographs at Ticketstock.

I was kinda hoping that they’d debut a new DFW mascot, “Delay-ey” or “Overbooky” or something “clever” like that. And then he/she/it would have DFW Airport-related superpowers, like knowing where to procure extra cots and blankets when an overnight connecting flight gets cancelled and extra 10% off coupons to the Cinnabon. Too bad.

Perhaps D Mag needs to make an International Sensational Motivational announcement at The Old Monk. Roll beer prices back or something. Just make it ahead of Time Out arriving in town–the pub(lication) not the pub.
