Normally, when someone calls a big press conference, the media all know ahead of time what’s going to be said. But they (sometime we) dutifully show up because either there are snacks to be eaten or because pictures are needed. And maybe some in the media do already know what’s going down tomorrow morning at 8:30 in Terminal D. But I don’t.
According to the invitation: “DFW will host an international announcement that will have a major impact on business and cultural exchange for Dallas and Fort Worth. The Airport’s special guests will receive a one-of-a-kind welcome from the Airport and community leaders. Due to the confidentiality of this announcement, no other details will be available prior to the event.”
In attendance will be mayors Tom Leppert and Mike Moncrief, plus various DFW Airport officials. Also promised: “There will be high-impact colorful visuals never before seen at DFW International Airport.”
What a day this is. I just hope this gesture of reconciliation isn’t some ruse by the aliens to cover their plans to enslave us.
“international announcement”?
“cultural exchange”?
“high-impact colorful visuals”?
Are the stranded Chinese acrobats going to be given a home at DFW?
I know what it i-is, but I ca-an’t tell you.
I hate people like Tim W.
They’re putting a new TGI Friday’s in Terminal D.
You haven’t heard??? It’s a very special exhibit: The James Fantroy Cavalcade and Congress of Colorful Cash Creation. Also stay tuned for a fall addition of the Al Lipscomp Triumphant Taxicab Treasure Hunt.
Hate is such a strong word, allison. But I probably deserve it. Maybe I read too much Marty Cortland…
Southwest will start flying out of DFW.
If Tim W knows, my guess is that American has added a new international destination. China, maybe?
IBERIA, DFW - Madrid… oneworld partner with AA, no service currently on this route…
Just a guess
I think you’ve got it, Guess. Seem to recall that AA was angling for China routes awhile back. Something along these lines:

Hopefully WN is comming to DFW in a BIG way to wipe out the AA monopoly, or even better AA is shutting down…(we can only hope)
But airlines need approval to establish US-China (or viceversa) service, as evidenced by the above China Daily article. Seems impossible to keep such a launch under wraps, no? And ‘high-impact colorful visuals’ lead me to believe that they’re talking about a new carrier. But who knows…
WNFAN, AA employs 30,000 people here in DFW?
Yeah, lets get rid of them so that the local economy takes a huge dump.
I don’t like the words “high-impact” and “airport” in the same breath.
RyanAtlantic? Please?
Due to the lack of profits from failing airlines, DFW will be converted into a new NASCAR track and the runways used for drag racing and other sporting events.
New service by a Chinese carrier. Cathay Pacific or another AA codeshare.
Or, WN starting DFW service.
They are going to announce that Spanish will be the primary language for ticketing, gate changes, etc.
Skylink will now have in-flight movies and meals. Train one is now first class and two is business executive.
Ugh. Unfortunately it wasn’t nearly as exciting as everyone’s guesses I’m afraid. And it’s nothing that will benefit the traveling public in any way whatsoever. From the DMN this morning: “The big announcement Friday morning at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is that the Texas Ballet Theater will go on a cultural visit to China this fall, and Visit DFW and American Airlines will help get them there.” Snooze.
It’s an announcement of a MegaWorld Cage fight between Delta and Northwest pilots to settle the seniority issue!
From the land of hype and $50,000 millionaires, Dallas aviation officials zing local aviation supporters expecting to hear news of possibly a new carrier or some far flung int’l destination opening up, only to be drug out to DFW, to hear of some local hick ballet company that no one has even heard of outside the DFW metro area, winging it’s way to China. I certainly hope the the PR mook that decided that this was a newsworthy event finds themselves joining the ranks of the unemployed, real soon.
