Last night Stephanie and I went to the annual “Be Happy” party, thrown by Todd.event design.creative services, held at the Apartment. The theme was Asian, with transvestites a plenty (that’s Ru Paul to the left, the surprise entertainment).

The party started at 7, and we got there around 7:45. The check-in girls and the coat-check girls were decked in pink kimonos, and the place was packed with the likes of Barbara and Don Daseke, Kim and Justin Whitman, and John Reoch. We could barely walk around, it was so crowded. We went outside to go to the bathroom (those super-nice Kohler porta-potty trailers) and I fell down the stairs (only one drink, I swear). At 8:15 or so, they opened the enormous tent outside and we all filed in. There was a stage set up, and cages with a guy and girl wearing sparkly leopard-print bikini-looking clothes gyrating inside. Lucy Wrubel was DJing, wearing cute high pigtails and dancing around like crazy in the DJ booth. Todd himself was up there with an earpiece directing traffic. Soon, the lights dimmed and this amazing looking transvestite came out, lip-synching to Beyonce’s “Freakum Dress.” They put on a great show, complete with heavily tatooed, frilly bikini-bottom-wearing boys who were just there to look hot, and for the girls to climb on.
When one of the ladies came out “singing” to Britney Spears’ “Gimme More,” it was pretty much the most awesome thing we’ve ever seen.
Soon, it was time for Ru Paul. Steph and I had worked our way to the front of the stage, with only one super-tall girl in our way. John Reoch considering spilling his champagne on her, but we talked him out of it. Steph is so short she could barely see, but this 6 foot tall chick wouldn’t budge–and was actually pretty rude about it. Seriously, this was a “Happy” party, not a concert. Can’t we all get along? Anyway, Ru Paul was kind of a disappointment. Her pink outfit was tight, but not nearly as sexy and fun as the previous ladies. Also, she didn’t really dance, and she isn’t a great singer, either…so we ended up scooting out during her second set. On our way to the valet, hot tea in little cups was offered, and we also got two CD’s, and a coupon for free fries at Tillman’s. There was also a yummy cookie in the car as a favor (argh, Lent!). The takeaway: Todd’s event planning is unmatched in this city, and he just keeps coming up with new, creative ideas, while paying extreme attention to detail. And, transvestites have incredible bodies.
Reoch, showing off his cuff links. Smells like Fahrenheit.

God bless Dallas creativity and a great party…but those manplants (that’s implants on one of the trannies) really, really scared me. I had to divert my attention to the conveyor belt of nibbles that was Jetson-like in its efficient delivery of neat treats on the move. And those ****tails…deadly. Ouch.

In my next life, I want to come back as DJ Lucy Wrubel. Spin it, girl, spin it!
For more photos and fun from Todd’s party, check out our blog http://www.CarpeVitaBlog.com and I promise I was not the 6 ft chick. But I think my camera rocks a little more – probably because it won’t fit in my purse
. Thanks for sharing.
