Phil King is the Republican state represenative from Weatherford. He is also chairman of the House Committee on Regulated Industries. In 2005, he denied he had accepted free tickets to the SuperBowl from CenterPoint Energy. But he did. What does it cost to acquire the good graces of the state rep. who controls how your business is regulated? In King’s case, it’s only $876.30.
(Kudos to R. A. Dyer of the Star-Telegram for sticking with the story.)
I have known Phil King for a number of years now, and the sanctimonious SOB continues to somehow, just when you think he can’t get any worse, redefine corruption. Two years after I fired him and his ***** brother in law, he “discovered” a few unpaid invoices and sent his state employed Chief of Staff to tell me how difficult life would be if I didn’t cough up the dough.
When I asked him if he thought it right to send a state employee to shake down a private individual for a bogus debt (of well over ten grand), his response was, and I quote, “He (Troy) works for me and he works for the state. When he’s working for me, he’s on my time. When he works for the state, he’s on the state’s time. I determine when that is.” Shortly thereafter, I received another demand letter, containing thinly veiled threats concerning his relationship with the local judiciary, sent from Phil’s capitol office. Apparently the fax machine worked for Phil and the state as well.
The man is not just crooked. He’s brazenly crooked, a thief, a cheat, and if you believe the gossip in Weatherford, routinely beat the crap out of his wife for a while. But he’s an incumbent and loves Jesus, so we might as well send him back, right?
He’s no different than the rest of them…he just got caught…and I’m sure these are just a scratch of the surface.
Nobody gets into politics to help their fellow man…they get into politics to help themselves.
Phil King is the epitome of the problem with our state system of legislative government.
