A 14-year-old student in Lewisville will not face charges of huffing hand-sanitizer. He still had to go in for fingerprinting and a mugshot. But after fingerprinting, what do you bet the kid went after the hand-sanitizer again? Thus, the cycle of crime continues.

Seems to be the consequence of these zero-tolerance policies. People no longer take any responsibility for using discretion.
Frustrating to see my city end up in the national spotlight again over something negative.
When researching this for my blog, I found that no reputable source lists hand-sanitizer or ethyl alcohol as an abusable inhalent.
word on the street says that hand sanitizer is the gateway drug to neosporin.
“Mr. Ortiz said the family’s ordeal began Oct. 19, when his son picked up a bottle of hand sanitizer from the desk of his fifth-period reading teacher at Killian Middle School in Lewisville. He rubbed the gel on his hands and smelled it.”—-
Since the teacher brought the substance into the classroom, she should be held accountable if they are actually trying to say hand cleaner can get you high. Had the kid found cocaine in her desk and sniffed a line, would they let her slide as well? It’s all the same in my opinion. General lack of accountability in today’s society.
“In the view of school officials, the boy “inhaled heavily,” according to Mr. Ortiz, who said his son sniffed the cleanser “because it smelled good.”"——
The phrase “inhaled heavily” doesn’t clearly indicate the kid repeatedly inhaled or “huffed” the substance.
Hand cleaner contains Ethyl Alcohol/Ethanol, which is the type of alcohol you ingest to become anebreated. You cannot breathe enough Jack Daniels/Vodka, etc. to create an actual “high”. You would have to drink the hand cleaner which would make you sick rather quickly considering the other agents in the cleaner.
If the kid was going to try to get high from hand cleaner do you really think he would stand up in front of the classroom and teacher and try it? Seems more plausible to steal the cleaner and do it later.
I suspect the teacher/school didn’t like the kid and went after him. I would also assume the school district and the police department saw an easy opportunity to give a minority a hard time. However, when they realized the minority had the money to hire a high profile attorney and contact the media, they conveniently dropped the charges.
They need to focus on creating an environment conducive to encouraging education. Kids today are bored in school, they need a challenge or they will find excitement elsewhere. The police need to spend more time and tax money pursuing bigger issues, like baggy pants, loud music, and dark window tint. Sarcasm added as insult.
i was the child who this stupid crap happend to and you know what i agree you cant sniff jack danuals to get high when i went in to see my princible i asked him are you joking? is this foreal i ask the police the same thing but now that its over dosent mean that kids wont stop teasing me for it those duche bags scrooed me over BIG time
