Leading Off

1. Dwayne Carraway and his anti-sagging campaign hit Dr. Phil today at 3 p.m. Programming note: I think a similarly titled but wholly different segment will be on The View this morning.

2. Mayor Leppert is going to Mexico. People will make a fuss, but I doubt the trip will have any impact on Dallas’ playoff run.

3. A car burglar hit the jackpot when he broke into a car belonging to a Greek Orthodox bishop in Arlington over the weekend. A gold-and-silver crown was among the items taken when Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver was … wait, his name is Metropolitan Isaiah?

  1. Metropolitan is his title (like Bishop), not his first name.

  2. @Rev. Hayter: Thanks for clearing that up.

And in Tony Romo’s defense, he had a good year, so bigger things were expected of him. Mayor Leppert? Not so much.

  3. Who steals a religious crown and somebody’s bible? There’s no shame these days.

  5. Not that I am defending the thief, but he/she may have mistook the crown for a giant circa early 90’s air freshener. We can rule out the person who broke into Jody Dean’s car at Northpark, because he/she already has a Bible.

  6. Let’s not be so quick to eliminate Jody Dean as a suspect. On another note, I think I just bought a ganster rap CD from this Metropolitan Isaiah.

  8. The restaurant parking lot the crown was stolen from is adjacent to the north Arlington Whole Foods. I live down the street and noticed last night that there is now an Arlington PD survey tower (or whatever you call those things) in that parking lot.

  9. Regarding the Parking Lot “Survey Tower” things… Can a top notch D intern get to researching their effictiveness at deterring break-ins and catching theives in the act? Also, are those things manned the entire time they are on a lot? Is pulling that duty a good thing (nap time!) or a bad thing (bor-ing…!)? What does the cost/benefit break down look like?

  10. Dwayne Carraway and Dr. Phil on the same show?

I’ll take Useless People From Dallas for $200, Alex.

  11. Seems to me the “tower-thingy” is just for show and is probably a waste of my taxpayer dollars. I honestly think they just moved the one they had at Wal-mart over there for a day or two. They should be concentrating that time on reducing the crime in the areas around it. Seems like consistent patrolling through the apartment city next door to that shopping center would be more effective.

  12. This is weird. I know greek Orthodox is very superstitious but this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080128/ap_on_re_eu/obit_christodoulos

Leads me to believe there is some gypsy curses and such going on………….
