For a couple of months I’ve been touting the idea that the Belo split would allow Robert Decherd to take the News private, a possibility that excited me. Ain’t gonna happen. With this news about the Philadelphia Inquirer and Mpls. Star Tribune possibly defaulting on their loans, no lender would touch it, or if they would, the price would be so high the News couldn’t afford it.

and yet, Mark Cuban says the internet is dead and he wants to buy newspapers. I wonder, if perhaps, he hit his head while he was ‘Dancing with the Stars’?
that was marie osmond, who mark does resemble. in several ways.
Cuban doesn’t want to buy newspapers: as with the Chicago Cubs, Mark just wants idiot press types to THINK that he could be seriously buying into media.
(Which, of course, generates more media attention for Cuban.)
Wait until the papers default, then buy. Wick, you take The DMN. I’ll take The Star Telegram. Then we can merge the papers and deliver a better product for both readers and advertisers alike.
