Local Gay Man Is Still Gay, Despite What They Say on The 700 Club

Our dearly departed Rod Davis points us to an item on the blog of his new(ish) employer about a gay man who claimed on a 700 Club segment to have been converted to heterosexuality during a church’s “purity siege” outside a Dallas gay bar. If you think you can guess what happened next, you’re probably wrong.

wow… and all along, I thought the stuff on “Southpark” was made up.

unfortunately, dm, the answer is “no”. as someone who went through a few years of “reparative” (always hated that moniker) i’m here to say it is dangerous, harmful, and doesn’t work. if anyone wants to check out a book on the subject i’d recommend “anything but straight: unmasking the scandals and lies behind the ex-gay myth” by wayne besen.

the sad thing is, much of the “therapy” is so out there and ridiculous that when it is shown in television or in movies, most people think it’s just made up or exaggerated. i’m here to tell you as someone that lived through this, these types of things really do happen! these quacks base their treatments on pseudo-science, intolerance and a good does of bigotry.

the american psychological association clearly states that homosexuality isn’t a disorder and opposes all portrayals of gays, lesbians and bisexuals as mentally ill and in need of treatment due to their sexual orientation. i hate to dumb it down but one of my favorite sayings seems to fit in here; “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

organizations like the ones in the article prey (and pray) upon fears, misconceptions and offer false hope to people who are in crisis. once i realized my problems weren’t because i was a gay man needing to change to straight, i was able to take a long look at myself so that i could learn from my experiences and grow.

i just hope that mr stabile escaped relatively unscathed and learns to accept and love himself for who he is. there is a whole world out there waiting.

Loved your reply. So right. It’s happening all around us. If a guy accepts a woman as his life partner because he wills it so and then has sex with her because he wills it so he probably does will it so because he is either bi-sexual or was just bi-curious with other guys in the first place.
I cannot will to have sex with a woman because it’s downright impossible, just as it is impossible for me to have sex with a dog! I will die on the job! As simple as that and all the false “theology” and philosophy and opinions aired by all those who have never been gay about gays is just damn rubbish. I’ve spent hours and hours doing research about biblical approaches, psychological papers, scientific reports and interviewed many guys who sleep with guys but who actually prefer women. The difference is they CHOOSE to sleep with men when the desire arises. I don’t choose bacause “I AM”. As simple as that too. It’s all really so simple but this damn debate will probably never stop because our society is still packed with blind bigots who see nothing but their own stifled sexuality and narrow view on life. They have not the slightest idea what it means to love unconditionally and they will never get out of their own little puddle of pee. We should just get on with our lives, make each other happy and let these dumb nuts suffocate themselves with their own one eyed farts!

As if we care what they think! Look how gay people excel in every walk of life? That shows how exceptionally well talented and strong they are. No one can deny that. They only hate it but they will come to terms with it in time to come. We have gained freedom and power all over the world and we are many and there are many heterosexual people on our side. Most of them are.

Thank God for people like you who are bright and intelligent and gifted. God has surely blessed you with a lot. Go and multiply your blessings to others!!
