Scary headlines must work. Personally, I find the News’ site almost impossible to navigate, but that’s just me. A new report on web traffic at metro newspapers from Editor & Publisher says it is doing quite well, thank you. The stats after the jump:

Does this mean they will have even more pop-up advertisements?
it ain’t just you…
For the record, the number after the publication name is the number of unique visitors in thousands, apparently on a monthly basis.
Wick, you’re right. Dallasnews.com is impossible to navigate and find anything other than what’s in the front page of any section. I suggest an RSS reader like Google Reader, NetNewsWire or FeedDaemon. Seems to take care of that popups issue as well.
At one point I heard two-thirds of their visitors were from outside the DFW market area. Does anyone know if that’s true?
“I heard two-thirds of their visitors were from outside the DFW”
well I live in Virginia and regularly visit the website since I’m a native Dallasite
Depending on when and how these measurements were taken, the increase in traffic may be a result of the News’ decision to terminate both the paid and non-paid portions of cowboysplus.com.
I do not understand how consultants, anyone, hasn’t figured out the right way to tell DMN management that their site is the worst of any major daily. If they need a good example, see the NY Times or MSNBC.com.
Yall keep linking us to the good stuff and we won’t have to navigate the site.
