Just came home for lunch and found a pair of red-breasted nuthatches on my tree and a flock of about 16 white-throated sparrows on the ground. They must have all come into town ahead of the cold front. Dark-eyed juncos in mass quantities. Tra la.

I have a ton of birds in my yard today, near the creek. It is LIGHTLY sleeting here. What do they know that we don’t?

They usually flock in ahead of a cold front. That is why a lot of birders will go south and wait for a cold front to move in. I went outside late last night when it was windy and I could hear them moving through. Once the front stop, they do because they are tired. They hit the ground and look for food and water. Some stay, some go. Try to see what you’ve got out there. If you’re near a creek you’ve probably got some good ones!
I’ve got all the above ‘cept crows and flickers…you must be near a field or woody area.

I’m homeofficed and have a window that looks out into my backyard. I’m in a heavily wooded neighborhood. I even saw a hawk swoop down one day trying to snag a squirrel

I saw a hawk murder a white-winged dove about three feet from my window. Real life NatGeo. Keep me posted.
