1. The Dallas City Council is considering strengthening the smoking ban. Zac Crain will probably have more to say about this. In fact, he has a lot more to say about it in his prescient feature story in the February issue (out next week) that predicts this intensified ban and takes a look at the history of smoking in Dallas. Make a mental note to read it.

2. Irving police are filing a murder charge against a 19-year-old who supplied cheese heroin to a 16-year-old who later died from the drug.

3. Have I just missed it, or have we mentioned that Stephenville thinks they saw UFOs? Is that an Tarrant Erath County thing? Discuss.

    3. This morning a man called Jody Dean. In a very funny set with a thick Texas country accent he told of his shock. Among very funny points he said that the WalMart is now selling rayguns and that the dipped cones at Dairy Queen are glowing! See if you can get the tape from Jody.

I, for one, am glad that Dallas is strengthening its smoking ban. Maybe the DPD SWAT team can now focus its efforts on knocking over illegal smoking venues and leave alone the menace that is poker.

How can you ban smoking in bars? That’s like banning reading in a library, or banning sun-bathing at the beach because it’s bad for your skin. Okay, they’re not perfect analogies, but cigs and beer are complimentary. And everybody going into a bar knows there’s the likelihood of a little second-hand smoke. I just can’t picture a world of smokeless bars.

Stephenville is in Erath County, unless of course the aliens moved it.
