Spotted at Whole Foods: Mavericks Bench Warmer

Just got back from the Whole Foods location on Lemmon, where former Fab Fiver and current Maverick high-fiver Juwan Howard was picking up lunch. I would have wished him luck tonight against the Detroit Pistons, but really, I have as much chance getting some run tonight as he does. Seemed like a nice guy though, or polite at any rate.

Mavs players tend to be regulars at Eatzi’s after morning practice. Maybe that’s why they raised the prices on their salads?

I saw Gibby Haynes from the Butthole Surfers at the Whole Foods on Greenville right around New Year’s. I think he was picking up some black-eyed peas for Muffin and his dad.

I used to play basketball against Gibby in junior high school. He was about a foot taller than everybody else. He’s probably better than Juwan Howard, now that I think about it.

Have to put in a plug for another Mavs bench player. Devean George lives across the street and has been great with the neighborhood kids asking for autographs, etc. Seems like a really nice guy.

Gibby played at Lake Highlands, I played at Plano (Wilson Jr. High). He was really good. Their whole team was good. And dirty. They beat us once when our best player, Sammy Bickham, scored 50. What a great story this is…
