Something Fun to Do Next Thursday

Next Thursday, January 17, is my birthday. I have fun plans. But if I didn’t, I would definitely attend “Your Element,” a funky art party happening at f.i.g. Full disclosure: It’s a D Magazine event. But our parties are always a blast, so that’s a good thing. Anyway, four local artists (Frankie Garcia III, Mikki Mallow, Bob Poe, and Zach Saucedo) will be displaying their works in individual studios, and then each one will auction off one item themed after earth, wind, fire, or water. (I like the one at the left. It’s called “P.E.A.C.E.- Silver(K)” by Saucedo). Proceeds benefit The Fashionistas, so guys, you know there will be hot chicks there too. D Magazine will host a unique event, “Your Element,” boasting art, fashion, music, food, and drink on Thursday, January 17, 2008, from 7 until 10 p.m. at f.i.g. (1807 Ross Ave.).

Local artists Frankie Garcia III, Mikki Mallow, Bob Poe, and Zach Saucedo showcase between eight and ten of their artworks in individual studios. Each artist will auction off one piece themed after earth, wind, fire, or water. An additional piece that all one four artists created together that incorporates all four elements will also be available at auction. Ticket proceeds, 20 percent from art work sales, and 100 percent of the element pieces will benefit THE FASHIONISTAS.

Up-and-comer student fashion designers Jonathan Aparicio, Taryn Hatcher, Kristin Hennessy, and Kahn Nguyen from the University of North Texas will also be in attendance. Their creations reflect each element thanks to direction from creative director Leary Forteau.
