Where Some People Watched Last Night’s Game

Funny you should mention Hef, Glenn. Some representatives of Playboy were in town and joined reps from Cuervo Black to throw a VIP watching party at Bolt Studios. A half dozen Playmates would be in attendance. Sadly, I was not. But our very own Nightlife Maven Kyle Kearbey and D photographer Elizabeth Lavin went. (That’s Elizabeth on the left, Kyle in the middle, and Kyle’s friend Sara at right.) I asked Kyle to write a recap of the evening. She did, and it — along with some photos taken by Matthew Shelley — is after the jump.

Kyle writes:

I went to the Playboy and Cuervo Black Thursday Night Football Game Watch last night. I have to say, I had pretty high expectations. On my way there I pictured red carpet rolled out leading to the entrance. The interior of Bolt Studio Productions (where it was) would be unrecognizable — the strobe-lit rooms decorated with plush black leather couches and fluffy pillows. At the party in my head, beautiful women would be walking around in sexy lingerie, bunny tails, and 7-inch heels with tons of gorgeous men gawking at them — not even paying attention to the game. And of course, lots of alcohol, plastic surgery, and massive orgies. You know, a typical Dallas Thursday night — only with Playmates in attendance.

That’s not exactly what it turned out to be. No red carpet. No lingerie. No bunny tails or 7-inch heels. Although the girls were cute, they were wearing black baby tees and jeans (see pics below). And to my major disappointment, no hot guys. Each room had a huge bar with lots of Cuervo Black begging to be drunk. A few couches lined the walls as well as several super-sized bean bags and a couple of big screen TVs and projectors.

I heard the party organizers were expecting 600 people. There may have been 30 guys there when I showed up. Most of them were quietly huddled in the corners while the rest were trying their best to flirt with the girls and get them to sign old magazines copies of Playboy that they brought with them. (Or maybe they always have them in their cars just in case they randomly run into Playmates.)

Not much changed during the first half of the game — at the party, I mean. The crowd (now about 40 strong — still no hot guys) stayed pretty lame tame. At least, that’s what it seemed like to me. The whole place was huge, so it felt empty.

Three hours into it, the tequila finally began to work its magic. More people showed, bringing the total to (guessing here) 60-70? But, by this time I was ready to go. I’d seen the scene, drank my drink(s), and headed for the door. Three hours seemed ample time for all I was going to do.

Then, on my long drive home to Frisco, I tuned in to 105.3 FM. They were there at the party, too, and I was curious to hear what they had to say. Turley and BDH were calling in with updates. Maybe everyone was waiting until I left to let loose, because by the time I got on the Tollway, the phoned-in updates described a party that was off-the-chizzain — or whatever the kids are saying these days. Could also be the fact that the game was over. Or maybe the tequila was finally doing what tequila does.

Oh, well. At least we got some good pictures out of it — taken by D’s own Elizabeth Lavin. I got some video, too, but you’ll have to wait until Monday to see it.
