A new study by the Pew Center gives encouraging news for the English-only crowd (of which I am sometimes a member).

Yep - and guess what? Those first generation kids will have a hell of a lot more opportunities than your whitebread, xenophobic prepster brats because of their bilingual skills.

Bravo, Lindsay…am I the only one who remembers the day when knowing more than one language was considered a badge of honor? What is it about this country that so fears other languages? And, Lindsay is correct: I am paid a monthly bilingual pay differential simply for remembering what I learned in college 30 years ago.

Why are we stunned and shocked that Hispanics are following the lead of every single immigrant group in this nation? I could have told them this was happening just from living in Oak Cliff for 25 years. The parents know little English, the kids are fluent in both languages, and the grandkids are 100% English speakers. Anybody who thinks the immigrants don’t want to learn English needs to be at the North Oak Cliff library on Saturday afternoons for the free English lessons. The room is packed full. God bless them, every one.
