Although I do have a friend who was asked if she wanted to check her bottle of hand sanitizer - by itself as she was not checking any luggage. It'd be interesting to see a bunch of random beauty products coming out the luggage carousel. "That's my shampoo - I use the fruit scented version - yours must still be coming..." Not surprised- I’ve gotten through with a full-size bottle of detangler among other things tucked in my carry-on – more than once.

Although I do have a friend who was asked if she wanted to check her bottle of hand sanitizer – by itself as she was not checking any luggage. It’d be interesting to see a bunch of random beauty products coming out the luggage carousel.

It sounds like most of the items they brought were within the limits (e.g. over 3 oz, and up to 3.4 oz/100ml). The rest of their items were up to 4 oz. To me, this isn't anything but a reasonable screener practicing a little discretion with the items between 3.4 and 4 oz. If two 3-oz items aren't going to blow up a plane, neither is one 4-oz item. I'm still amazed that Kip Haley and his TSA idiots allow disposible lighters now but not a freakin' bottle of water. I can't even get the _allowed_ items through security. I've been stopped for bringing my lunch; required to eat it on the spot. What they _should_ have reported is the secret to getting stuff past the TSA. Should I be more friendly and chatty? Should I wear a suit? Should I become a tall, handsome TV reporter? Because the whole TSA security ritual is just a bunch of voodoo to make us feel more secure. Putting your toiletries into a Ziploc baggie doesn't actually make you more secure, but it does make a nice talisman. I do not understand how these people managed to get things through security.
