A futbol-following FrontBurnervian sends along this link with news that Tom Hicks is going soccer shopping again. He already has a 50 percent stake in Liverpool. Italian reports say he’s looking to venture into Serie A, with a purchase of Roma. Developing.
Update: Or not. Hicks denies, denies, denies.

Problems with Hicks buying Roma:
1. No Italian team is owned by a foreigner. Plus if Sensi and Co. are even willing to sell there will be a bidding war for the 220 e million ($320mil) team with no guarantees for Hicks.
2. UEFA rules forbid a single owner having two teams in competition. With Roma and Liverpool both in the Champions League, a purchase would either force one team to withdraw – a ludicrous situation – or Hicks would have to break his partnership with Liverpool co-owner George Gillett.
Not feeling this one.
Problems with Hicks buying Roma: (part deux)
1. Liverpool is the sore on the bottom of Wayne Rooney’s flawed foot.
2. I sat at many a Ranger’s game and stared at the empty “owner’s box” with its private TV and clubhouse access, wondering is this idiot too busy schmoozing The Kop to realize that he is letting a franchise pilfer the bottom of the standings? AGAIN!
3. Italy (yes, the whole country) has a slight problem with crowd control these days.
4. SELL THE RANGERS, YOU JERK! Ask Wick for some potential suitors, he’s rich.
5. Oh by the way, fire the Stars’ silly, mustache-less coach too. While you were considering signing Totti’s paychecks, Tippy’s team gave up 6 goals in what felt like about 45 seconds. Nice spine, Stars.
