Michael Davis runs a blog called Dallas Progress. He’s also on the City Planning Commission. As he mentioned in the comments section of yesterday’s post, six of the seven bars facing Special Use Permit renewals got ‘em, with one getting an extension. That’s good news for fans of Deep Ellum. And, as Davis writes on his blog, the turnout yesterday at City Hall is good news for the future. The kids, they care.

My problem with the permits: why are they only for a few years? I am sure the city says it is to keep a tight leash on bars and music venues. The cynic in me thinks that once there is demand to redevelop Deep Ellum from the ground up, the city will revoke the permits and bring out the wrecking ball. Am I crazy?
Club Dada btw, got a 5 year permit, because of its great reputation and business practices. I wish people could have seen the chamber full of young people speaking quite articulately and passionately about the future and the arts community that is happening there. It was a nice view of grass roots democracy.
