A couple days ago, I shared one of my favorite letters ever from a reader, from a guy named Alibaster Abthernabther. Today, I learned the chap has his own blog (natch). Great entry this morning about the Cherry Pit, the Duncanville swinger’s club. Check it out.

This guy is hysterical.
Tim,
Thanks SOOO much for linking this blog. This is absolutely brilliant writing! I suggest reading it aloud with an Oxford accent for added humor……….
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this link. It will be daily reading, along with FB, of course.
While I agree with Paul’s assertion that Mr. Abthernabther’s writing is “brilliant,” it is technically problematic. He has a propensity to use the plural pronoun “they” (or “their” or “them”) to refer to a singular antecedent, such as, “Secure your cat to the living room sofa with thumb tacks and electrical tape and face them towards a television playing reruns of Meet the Press from 1964.” While his use of plural pronouns with singular antecedents may be an attempt to avoid sexist language, it also demonstrates an unfortunate level of carelessness. The above sentence could have been revised as follows: “Secure your cat to the living room sofa with thumbtacks and electrical tape and face it towards a television playing reruns of Meet the Press from 1964.” Note that thumbtacks is one word, not two (yet another sign of careless blogging) and that the cat in question is referred to as an “it” rather than “he or she,” which is an entirely proper pronoun for an animal, regardless of how dear it may be to its owner.
Would that more blog writing were so technically problematic.
Reminds of the early days of the Dallas Observer when fake personal ads were printed to drum up interest in the fledgling alt-weekly.
Absolutely brilliant writing, a bit scatological at times, but a real pleasure to read.
Methinks the next Alibaster blog post will be a letter to one “Jon of Frontburner comments”.
Although I would be delighted to engage Mr. Abthernabther in a discussion about the finer points of the English language, I fear doing so would distract him from his primary mission as a true raconteur.
Good work, Jon. Keen eye. Thank you for your diligence.
Seems Mr. Abthernabther has found Park Cities People as well: http://blog.peoplenewspapers.com/2007/11/08/3220/
everybody knows “Abthernabther” is Jaqueline Floyd, right?
no, no wait. It’s Blackistone. Now it all makes sense…that’s why they call him the “Buyout Dandy”. Cool blog, KB. Kudos.
