I’m on the live conference call right now listening to Eric Lindros retire. He’s just donated $5 million to the London Health Sciences Center in London, Ontario. That is the medical facility (say: organ-I-za-tion) that put his Humpty-Dumpty-body back together so many times. It’s the largest donation ever given by a Canadian athlete.
Update: Money quote so far. When asked what he’d have done differently in his career: “I might have practiced stickhandling with my head up a little more.” Update: It’s over. He’s not coming back. He’s going skiing. Eric will most likely become an ombudsman for the NHLPA. I’m sure all management and owners are thrilled a-boot this.
do you think he will cancel the $5M check and send it to New York instead?
Despite numerous injuries, Lindros averaged a point a game for 13 years. Despite what you think of him as a player, off the ice, he is generous with fans, money, and time for kids in amateur hockey programs. Can’t say any of that about Mark Messier. Next.
ooooohhhh, yea. Hey Chris, Nancy just unloaded her inner-Bayless on you. This is only slightly less pleasant than her inner-Navratilova, which is a grade higher than when she unleashes her inner-white throated sparrow.
All of these are more pleasant than the uber dreaded inner-Abthernabther.
Not funny. I love Nancy.
Not treu aboot Mark, Nancy (that’s “not true about Mark” for a Merkin, Nancy).
I’ve known him since he played for Spruce Grove at age 16. He busted players and kept his head up. He (and Gretz and Juri and Dave and brother Paul and the rest) helped more kids than Lindros had time too, ’cause Lindy was always counting his money and his plane tickets to his next gig.
Look up Spruce Grove, Nancy. Look up Messier’s contributions, Nancy. And please, stick to birds and some kinds of food, Nancy. IJS.
You’re right about Mark and his charitable contributions, although I can’t find anything that says he gave $5 million to any charity. I was a friend of Roger Neilson, who coached Mark and Eric, and if Roger was here right now, he’d be the first one to tell you who had a bigger heart.
Since Eric has donated the $5 mill how much is that in American money now that the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar
and because of the donation does he get to move to the front of the line if he needs any health care?
Eric Lindros is THE MAN
