Eric, whaddya got to say about this? Rodrigue just called Schutze a lunatic. Awesome.
Mike Rhyner at 3:41 today: “Greggo is taking some personal time. We do not know when he’ll be back. That’s all we have to say about that.”
This reminds me of the time — a year ago? — that Greggo disappeared. The show said they’d discuss it when he returned, but they never did.
Curious.
In the November print version of FrontBurner, we look at the row over North Lake (North Lake, not Southlake) that pits the City of Coppell and the Coppell ISD against Billingsley Development Co. and the City of Dallas. After the jump, here’s a view from a trusted FBvian who resides in Coppell.
If you’re not going to Eric’s 40th birthday party tomorrow, then here’s where you should be: the Carter Albrecht memorial show.
Following tomorrow’s Race for the Cure (Jessica and I will see you there), keep walking over to the Designer’s Choice Home Tour 2007, where homes decorated by Tracy Rasor & Nancy Anderson Ross, Ann Schooler, Myrl Talkington, and Charlotte Taylor will be on display. The kickoff is at the Lovers Lane Church at 9200 Inwood Road, and the cost is only $20 to gawk and stare all day long. Tickets are at Tom Thumb and at genesisshelter.org.
Full disclosure: My house will be on display. Kidding. D Home is the media sponsor. Click here for more info and a peek at one of the homes.

A month ago, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists named Aguilar its broadcast journalist of the year. Yesterday, the NAHJ president, Rafael Olmeda, sent a letter to Channel 4 asking for Aguilar’s reinstatement. Olmeda does ask a good question: how come only Aguilar was suspended? Her report must have been seen by a producer or a managing editor before it aired? When Aguilar was escorted from the building, shouldn’t there have been at least one other employee right behind her?
Aguilar was scheduled to serve as a panelist last night at the Metromorphosis symposium. That’s why her photo is dead center of the Metromorphosis program. She told the organizers at the last minute that she had to back out (the able Catherine Cueller, who needs to update her resume, filled in). I was told that Aguilar has received threats from people who did not appreciate her report.
Fashion is cool. Videos about fashion are even cooler. D subscribers have no doubt seen the Style section, alerting readers that “gray is this season’s neutral.” But if you saw the page in the magazine and wondered what all goes in to a photo shoot such as that, wonder no more. Instead, check out this cool, behind-the-scenes video produced by the inimitable Kyle Kearbey and featuring D style editor Stephanie Quadri. Personally, my favorite part is the music, but that could be because I helped pick it.
Good, sir. When my door it shut, you can be assured it is because I’m conducting sensitive business that requires privacy (pronounced “PRIV-uh-see”). I’ll do my best to post my thoughts about last night. Soon as I finish my nap.
I’m a little behind in my reading, so last night was the first chance I had to flip through the November issue of Food and Wine magazine (one of my favorite mags). In a move that probably surprises no one, a 10- page spread (with recipes) for Dean Fearing’s Dallas Thanksgiving is featured.
So what does Dean serve for Thanksgiving? Blood orange margaritas, gingered butternut squash soup, turkey with tortilla-corn bread dressing, avocado relish, and Texas State Fair pecan pie. Actually sounds really good right now. Check it out.
A group of investors including Dallas’ Terry E. London, a former bigwig with Gaylord Entertainment, has snapped up a CBS TV station in Tyler for $25 million.
If you, like me, are waiting for Tim to give us a recap of his performance as a panelist at last night’s much-hyped Metromorphosis, you may have to wait a while. I’ve been at the office for a little longer than an hour, and Tim still hasn’t opened his door. Rumor has it he’s sleeping off a bender, as he and several other staffers reportedly closed down the Lakewood Landing. Or maybe he’s just going over his notes from last night.
The video of the news report that touched off the whole Aguilar controversy has been removed from both Fox 4’s website and Youtube. But Breitbart has it, as part of a larger report they did. Good luck taking that down, Fox 4.
The family of that girl who shot at a SWAT officer during a pre-dawn raid on her home is saying she thought it was a burglar and not police. Hard not to give that claim some credence. When police start using the same tactics as violent home invaders, how do you tell the difference?
The fact is, these no-knock raids and dynamic entries do little but escalate the potential for violence and militarize the police. What’s more, the number of botched SWAT raids where innocents are hurt or killed is alarming. The head of Dallas’ SWAT team has said time and again he wants to cultivate a “warrior mindset” among his officers. Think about that for a minute. The job of a warrior is to kill his enemy. The job of a police officer is to look at everyone — yes, even suspects — as citizens who have rights that must be respected. When you try to blend the two, what could possibly go wrong?
First, a Friday Fun reminder: Desktop Tower Defense is one of the greatest time-wasters in the history of time-wasters. That being said, today’s Friday Fun — a pale imitation — ain’t bad. It’s called Bloon Defense 2, and it shares the same theme and strategery of the earlier Tower Defense games. Go check it out.
