As mentioned earlier in this space, Life Time Fitness has bought out the Premier Club, one of the last independent health clubs in town. The transition is to be complete October 31. Yrs trly has been a Premier member for about seven years, mainly so I can play basketball at lunch (we miss you, Cubes). As I suppose is to be expected during a transition like this, there has been some locker-room murmuring about what the future holds for members who decided to stay with Life Time. I tried to get some intel yesterday from a Life Time official. I thought I’d share the e-mail exchange, as a service for current Premier members:

To Whom It May Concern:
The sole reason I belong to Premier is for the basketball court. Too few clubs in town have them (and have decent lunchtime games).
Can you assure me that the court will remain?

Good Morning Tim
Life Time has not made any final decisions in regards to renovations to the Premier club. I highly suggest attending the member forum on Tuesday, October 16th. It will be held at the Radisson (6060 N Central Expressway) @ 6:00 pm. There’s limited seating; we’ve provided a sign-up sheet at Premier front desk.
Best Regards,

Thanks for the note, [name redacted].
I’m sure you’ll understand when I tell you that I’ve got enough meetings in the course of my week. I haven’t much time for another. Similarly, if my dry cleaner or the Starbucks barista I get my coffee from every morning said he wanted to have a meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the future of his service to me, I would likely elect to skip the meeting.
It’s been frustrating hearing the rhetoric about “unparalleled customer service” and so forth from Life Time and all the while not being able to get definitive answers about what’s to change and what’s to remain the same at my beloved Premier.
“Ah ha!” you’re thinking. “That’s what the forum is for.”
I’ll make you a deal: if you pick up my daughter from daycare on Tuesday night and get dinner going, I’ll be happy to attend the meeting.
I fear this is going to end badly for at least one of us.

[...] Awhile back, I gritched about the new owners of my beloved Premier Club. When I asked them what plans they had in mind for remodeling (specifically wrt to the basketball court), they suggested I attend an evening meeting for members in some hotel conference room. I declined. But one FrontBurnervian did (along with perhaps 70 others), and he sends the following report from the field: The entire audience and myself were completely insulted. VP guy stood in front and could not answer one question — Is the pool staying? Response was don’t know! Is basketball staying? Response was at this moment we don’t know. We are here today to listen to what you want. He could not produce any images, timetable, bullet items, sketches or whatever on the changes, but he hopes to have something for us real soon (which really means our comments mattered). In no way could he even address the rate hike and that ticked people off. Expect the rates to goto $119 shortly (was not explicitly said, but this is what they normally charge). Funniest thing when a nice, soft-spoken mom said you bring people from corporate to welcome us aboard, etc — you say you stress fitness and these people are carrying boxes of donuts and look like they never worked out a day in their lives Much more could be said of this 90 minute waste of time. Consensus was things would have been better if the meeting was never held! [...]
