A sympathetic FrontBurnervian shares Chuck’s assessment, to a degree:
“Did you ever see Dallas from a DC-9 at night? Dallas is a jewel, Dallas is a beautiful sight.” (Jimmy Dale Gilmore) Who says Dallas doesn’t have a good song?
As for the rest of the post on the travel magazine guy about Dallas, I’d say he was spot on. I’m a life-long Texan and lived in Dallas and northern burbs for 26 years prior to moving to Austin 3 years ago. Its nice to be back in Texas. While I’ve never pronounced any silent “h’s” (unless for comic effect), he does an excellent job of describing the city (for a carpetbagger). Thanks for posting that. Sometimes it seemed to me that Shreveport was more proud of Texas than Dallas ever was. Finding the authentic Texas in Dallas must be quite the challenge as a writer/editor. Good luck with that, if, in fact, that’s what you’re even trying to find…. Dallas does have a pretty good magazine blog though. Yall have a good weekend.
Will do, pardner.
