HAVE A GOOD MORNING ALL THE WAY THROUGH LUNCH ON FRIDAY

robin-roberts.jpgFeeling a little philanthropic? Like morning shows? On Friday, Robin Roberts of ABC’s Good Morning America will be in town to speak at the Attorneys Serving the Community Luncheon at the Hilton Anatole, benefiting the Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council in Dallas.

Here’s a statement that’s no surprise: I’m a morning show watcher. I like Roberts. She and Diane Sawyer are a good team, and you know I’d take cute Chris Cuomo here to get my Exposition Street kunkle on if it weren’t for all that marriage stuff (his, not mine). Anyway, sounds like good Friday lunch material to me.

Tickets and more information after the jump.

Robin Roberts brings star-power to annual ASC luncheon benefiting Camp Fire USA

DALLAS, Texas (April 25, 2007) – Robin Roberts, co-anchor of ABC News’ Good Morning America, has been selected as the speaker for this year’s Attorneys Serving the Community (ASC) luncheon. The luncheon will take place on June 15, 2007, at 12 noon at the Hilton Anatole and will benefit Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council in Dallas, Texas. Jennifer Evans Morris and Nicole LeBoeuf are the event co-chairs.

Founded in 1987, ASC is a volunteer organization of women attorneys committed to raising awareness and funds for local charities benefiting women and children. Each year the women of ASC carefully select a different local charity to sponsor. Once a beneficiary is selected, ASC members spend the remaining year actively engaging in events to raise contributions for the beneficiary, culminating in its annual benefit luncheon.

This year’s beneficiary, Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council, addresses the needs of children, youth and families in the Greater Dallas community with programs that focus on different aspects of youth development. The Lone Star Council’s year-round camping experiences are provided to develop self-esteem and life skills in youth of all ages, and are held at its 65-acre “outdoor classroom,” Camp Ellowi, located in Cedar Hill.

Robin Roberts has worked in broadcasting for more than 20 years. She graduated cum laude from Southeastern Louisiana University where she was a standout performer on the women’s basketball team. Ms. Roberts has traveled to Africa and the Persian Gulf giving viewers a firsthand look at the Iraq War and the AIDS crisis. She received the Distinguished Achievement Award in broadcasting from the nation’s oldest broadcasting society, the University of Georgia’s Di Gamma Kappa, as well as The Excellence in Sports Journalism Award for Broadcast Media, from the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society and the School of Journalism.

Named a “Louisiana Legend,” Ms. Roberts grew up on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. In the aftermath of Katrina, she reported from her hometown, Pass Christian, Mississippi, which was wiped out by the storm. Through Ms. Roberts’ efforts, Good Morning America has partnered with the Salvation Army and the Corporation for National and Community Service to “adopt” and help rebuild her home town. She is a frequent speaker for charities and civic functions.

The public is invited to hear Robin Roberts and support Camp Fire USA at this year’s ASC luncheon on June 15, 2007.
