BACK ON THE HORSE

(Alternate Headline: WHERE I’M GOING TO BE IN A COUPLE OF HOURS)

Thoroughbred racing at Lone Star Park begins its 10th season tonight. Giddy-up. The DMN gave it frontpage treatment today, with a story that says (I’m paraphrasing), “Lone Star Park = good, but then, Lone Star Park = not as good as The Man said it was going to be.” Admittedly, LSP has had declining attendance and wagering the past few years. But LSP isn’t alone. Many tracks are struggling, particularly those without slot machines. No slot machines means smaller race purses. Smaller race purses means lesser horses (the good ones go elsewhere, and many fans follow). Lone Star Park has removed Wednesday night racing from the schedule, which should help make larger fields, better racing, and bigger payouts Thursday thru Sunday. At least, that’s what I’m hoping.

Just something to think about as you, like me, head to the betting windows to cash in your exactas.
