I think that W.T. White parent may want to read this story about heroin in Plano that D published in December of 1999. In it, photographer Misty Keasler aims her lens at the suburban junkie and includes an account of her project. There is a quote in there from then assistant chief of police Greg Rushin: “Dealers take black tar heroin, freeze it. then grind it up in a coffee grinder, and mix it with an over-the-counter sleeping aid that has an antihistamine in it that keeps your nose from running.” It goes on to explain that drug dealers called it “chiva” instead of heroin. Some users I knew at the time I graduated from Plano Senior High School in 1995 also called it “cheese.” It’s not new.
