A food-eating FrontBurnervian reports from the field. He visited Ozona over the weekend. Apparently our April cover story has impacted their business:
We met one of the wife’s friends plus her husband and kid for lunch at Ozona. You may know that Ozona had a sign out front that said, “Thank you D Magazine: Best chicken fried steak in Dallas.” Apparently either everyone in the city read the current issue or saw that sign or both. I heard about a dozen people talking about the chicken fried steak as they came in. I also overheard a guy telling a waitress that, “I come here every week and I’ve never seen it this busy.”
Big groups, lots of families, kept coming in, and the crowd clearly overwhelmed the hostess, who, I believe, was 12 years old. By the time we left, the wait for a table was up to 50 minutes. (Indeed, our promised 20 minute wait turned into 40 minutes and might have been longer had we not decided to just sit down at an empty table and see if someone would serve us. This worked.)
Oh, and the chicken fried steak? Eh.
But, still, that place owes you something.
