Last one of these for the day, but a Greenville-dwelling FBvian takes issue with Avi’s assessment of the afternoon.
To say the DPD did not do their job is completely false. In fact, I had to chase an overzealous parking attendant away from my own car parked in front of my own house at 9:30am on Sat. because it was not 10am. I saw the guy writing tickets on other cars and during the day I noticed a few tickets on cars. I for one would be less inclined to get extremely angry and cause a scene around a bunch of drunks and policemen if I only had a ticket rather than have to got down to the impound. I’m sure the police realized this. The point is: the law can be enforced without everyone going to jail or every car being towed. The police are there to maintain order which they did remarkably well considering this was probably the largest turnout ever and there were no major incidents. I daresay that would not happen if a few people came out to see that their car was gone.
Most people think Avi is more of a nuisance than the party-goers. He harasses the police for not doing their job by following the letter of the law to a T every moment. (I for one enjoy and welcome a cop wearing green beads and fitting into the community while maintaining order.) He harasses the bar owners for the same. Frankly as a native Dallasite and resident of lower Greenville, I think Avi is [material expurgated in the interest of civility].
Deep Ellum, Downtown, The West end, and now maybe Victory Park, have or will have their ups and downs as far as “The Place” to go, but Greenville Avenue has always maintained a steady healthy nightlife that is as much a part of Dallas as White Rock Lake, Reunion Tower, Neiman Marcus, etc.
