Just back from the Barneys NY show this morning at FATP. I’m suppressing the urge to use exclamation points, but the show was great fun. (See? It just doesn’t sound that exciting without those banned EP’s.) But it was, and I urge everyone who has a free afternoon between now and Saturday to buy a ticket and go see a show.
This morning, Barneys creative director Simon Doonan was at the podium, giving the show an irreverent, comic edge. Besides announcing what each model was wearing, he gave each girl and guy a tounge-in-cheek description, complete with fake names (think Hortense, Haiku, Gaylord, Butterfly) and life stories (for example, one model worked at Arby’s, and another he discovered at the Westin Hotel omelet bar). Some of the descriptors involved references to local Barneys shoppers, many of whom where in the audience. One of our favorites included a story about Nancy Nasher and Angie Barrett fighting over a dress, and Sharon Young coming in and swiping it amongst the chaos.
It was Sharon Young’s birthday, a fact Doonan referenced many times. Happy Birthday Sharon! What a great way to start a b-day. Other folks in the crowd: Kim and Myrna Schlegel, Todd Fiscus, Josh and Tracy Madans, Naomi Aberly, Suzanne Droese, Heidi Dillon, Jan Showers, Angie Barrett.
Swag bags were chock-full of goodies, such as full size Route du The perfume and cologne, Fresh products, Molton Brown bath and shower gel, and plenty of other perfume samples I’m sticking in my drawer for emergencies. Stephanie will be there all day taking notes and blogging when she can, and I’m going back tonight for the premiere of the movie Seamless, about fashion designer DooRi.
