MY PAL MELISSA ETHERIDGE GOES HOME WITH OSCAR

timsimage_sized.jpgI can’t tell you how cool it was to see my long-time FRIEND win an Oscar for Best Song last night. I’m sure she was so frazzled with such a long list of people to thank that she forgot to mention that she and I worked on the song together. We were sitting around jammin’ in Aspen, after we’d left Al Gore face down in a plate of caribou at Pinons, and as I was getting ready to recycle all the wine bottles, Mel said, “Hey, you know, caring about the earth is not Republican or Democrat, it’s not red or blue. We are all green.” I didn’t think anything of it at the time since we were all schnockered. (I think I kissed Jimmy Carter on the mouth that night, yuck.) Eventually I passed out on the couch. When I woke I asked her, “Have I been sleeping? I’ve been so still.” And that is my convenient truth. Swamp land, anyone?
