GOOD GLASS AT GOSS

Although she had to suffer through Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, this week wasn’t a total bust for Jenny Block. She did enjoy the opening-night festivities for “Naturally Formed” at the Goss Gallery, featuring the work of Neil Wilkin, Angela Jarman, Kate Malone, and Junko Mori. Interestingly, I just got back from the Cotswolds in England, and Neil Wilkin’s work is in the garden at the Cotwold House (not to mention the private collections of some well-to-do Brits). If those pieces are any indication, this stuff will make you think twice about blown glass.

Here’s what Jenny has to say.

I had seen photos of some of the works when I was writing the preview for the October issue. But, as is usually the case, the pieces are far more intriguing in person. The textures, the shapes, the colors, even the sizes of the pieces were surprising. Some are hung on the walls; most are on plain surfaces placed throughout the gallery. They are all so organic that the gallery looks like a lab of sorts. And I couldn’t stop examining the intricacies of each sculpture. The soiree itself was fabulous, of course, as has always been my experience at Goss, with wine flowing and all the beautiful people (in all of their beautiful clothes) in attendance. The show closes October 28. Definitely worth checking out.
