A media-savvy FrontBurnervian shares his thoughts about Tim’s latest “D on 11″ spot. Watch it, and decide what’s the worst part. Is it Tim in his typical on-camera attire (suit with no tie)? Is it Tim’s inability to find anyone to agree with his theory that one person should buy up all of Deep Ellum? Or is it the part where Tim tries to get a comment from a wall? The media-savvy FrontBurnervian has his own theory about the worst part, but the true answer is revealed after the jump.
I love Tim. Really, I do.
Still, how can someone who has a working vocabulary over 20,000 words; is a stickler for journalistic style and prose; and, is blessed with more biting wit than the venerable Gordon Keith (yeah, I said it), be such a dingus on television?
Case in point, his “Buying Deep Ellum” piece on “D on 11″ was, in a word, crap. Aside from being UN-funny and UN-insightful, Tim came across as a dolt. Granted, I’ll give him points for looking the part for a change. The handkerchief dressed up his Haggar suit nicely.
However, how can the executive editor of friggin’ D Magazine commit the most basic of journalistic blunders? Never, ever state the obvious in a lead. Tim’s opening statement begins with “everybody knows Deep Ellum is going through a rough patch.” If everyone knows it, why say it? What next? I can just imagine these future mind-numbing openers by Mr. Rogers:
“Good morning. I’m Tim Rogers, executive editor of D Magazine. As everyone knows, D Magazine is a magazine.”
-Tim speaking at the Sachse Chamber of Commerce’s monthly “Lunch and Learn” speaker series“It has to be a point of concern. Everyone knows that illegal drugs are bad. They are also illegal.”
-Tim offering an expert point of view on Fox 4 News’ expose on “Drugs in the Workplace”“Don’t count out the Texas Rangers just yet. Everyone knows that they can win a lot of games if they just score more runs than their opponents. You can’t underestimate this point.”
-Tim discussing hardball on ESPN radio“Everyone knows I’m incontinent.”
-Tim at his Thursday night support group
The worst part: I know for a fact that Tim solicited such commentary from the media-savvy FrontBurnervian.
