SHENANIGANS AT THE DENTON APPRAISAL DISTRICT

A little community newspaper called The News Connection up in Highland Village has uncovered what seems to be a pattern of favortism and possible corruption in the Denton Central Appraisal District, which apparently is run like an old boys’ club for aspiring Republican politicos. The latest revelation by reporter Stephen Webster is juicy:

The old axiom of “it’s not what you know, it’s whom you know” could be alive and well in Denton County. And it seems as though Lewisville City Councilman Dean Ueckert may know just the right person. In 2004, Ueckert’s property was assessed at $306,696. In 2005, the property’s assessed value was cut dramatically to $160,349…Perhaps more interesting is the name stamped on Ueckert’s most recent appraisal record: none other than fellow Lewisville City Councilman and Deputy Chief Appraiser Rudy Durham.

Seems like the council members got some ’splaining to do. I’ve placed a call to Denton DA Bruce Isaacks to find out what he thinks.
